Commission to completion

Each order for a lute starts with quite a detailed discussion to work out exactly what the customer requires. From that specification I then work on the design, and produce a full size drawing; after that all the materials are selected and prepared.

Construction of discrete elements (pegs, bridge, soundboard, back, pegbox etc.) then leads to an assembly phase in which all of these are brought together to form the lute.

The next step is to finish all the surfaces and prepare for applying the various specialist finishes required. Finally the pegs and frets are fitted, and the instrument can be strung and set up.
